Open for Delhi-based artists with at least 3 years of practice, working across mediums and disciplines including visual arts, performance, sound, music, theatre, creative writing and others. Applications are encouraged from artists whose practice aligns with below ideas and will benefit from a peer-driven co-thinking space.

Shared Ecologies is pleased to present Timekeepers: a month-long workshop+lab for artists to engage with Time as material through the framework of New Materialism. Time-ordering devices, such as clocks and calendars, that are human-centric and measure time in a hyper-fragmented ‘minute’ scale, are tied to capitalist production-consumption cycles, thereby abstracting it from everyday life. There are other ways of sensing time to understand its deeply processual and everyday character, particularly observed in material/objects — in the different paces of their transformation. What would it mean to treat them as (anti)clocks or time-keepers? 

The lab will evolve from these concepts, with readings, discussions, and creating alternative measures of time by observing and tracking a selected material/object and its processes over the month. It will start with an intensive one-day workshop, followed by group discussions and meet-ups, and closing with a public engagement. About the facilitator: Sonam is an artist, educator and place-maker based in Delhi. She creates recesses and moments of shared Time (/contemporary— con- ‘together with’ + tempor- ‘time’) and intimacies amid capitalist alienation. Through interactive installations, sculpture, artist books, socially-engaged art, and tactical devices of coming together/gathering, she explores the speeding economy, time-valuations, politics of rest and erosion of the night, sociality of food, and intimacy and care in the institution.
