How do we articulate and characterise shifts that we see in our environment? How can we evolve our vocabularies to address the contemporary crisis of ecology? In order to identify changes, it becomes pertinent to connote these articulations and uncover the relationships and associations that words produce. Taking from the Growing Lexicon, produced as part of the Multispecies Speculations project initiated by Ravi Agarwal, we look to investigate our (growing) vocabularies and vocalisations around nature and its changing state and relations.
This 3-day workshop locates nature as temporal, where it remains enmeshed with an accelerated state of flux as we navigate the climate crisis. The artist-facilitators Shripad Sinnaakar, Sirf paudhon se pyaar, and Anju Acharya propose an activation through the written, the aural and the drawn rendered, respectively, as methodologies of sensing.
Day 1: Language as Flux by Shripad Sinnakaar

In order to address nature, we must also be able to articulate its differences, through micro-climates, local ecologies, leading to varying scales of relationships. Words have their own ecology as well and form a matrix of understanding in relation to one another. Can we forage for words from the various languages that we occupy? Shripad Sinnakaar leads a writing workshop where storytelling becomes a way of approaching ecology, with a focus on caste and environmental relations.
Day 2: Sonic Microclimates by Sirfpaudhonsepyaar

This workshop is a focused exploration of how we listen to our changing environments. It centres on a unique collaboration: participants will act as collectors of sonic traces, and a pre-programmed modular synthesizer will act as an interpreter and co-creator. The machine will process field recordings in real-time, stretching, compressing, and spatializing them within a four-channel soundscape. This process is designed to give audible form to the concept of deep time, allowing us to witness how non-human temporalities and technological agency can reframe our understanding of place and change.
Day 3: Drawn Mediations by Anju Acharya
12th February, 10 AM – 1 PM
About
The ‘scientific’ has been entrusted as a space for knowledge production, a mode of reasoning and lexical intervention. Anju Acharya leads a workshop on anatomical drawings of animals as well as humans, thinking about the different ways of producing difference, considered through the lens of the “more-than-human”, where drawing becomes an act of othering or of bridging the other.
